About VAPCP

A statewide association for personal care agencies

The Virginia Association of Personal Care Providers (VAPCP) is the industry association for companies providing in-home personal care to elderly and disabled Virginians who wish to age in place and avoid institutionalization. The Association works to ensure member agencies have the certified staff needed to maintain the integrity of licensed, qualified care.

What we do

Personal care agencies are regulated by DMAS, licensed by the Virginia Department of Health, and paid — for much of this work — by Medicaid managed care. None of those groups is built around agency-directed personal care. VAPCP is. We give agencies the information, the relationships, and the voice in Richmond that they need to keep operating — so their clients can stay in their own homes, and the caregivers who make that possible can earn a living doing it.

The association:

Represents providers to the General Assembly, DMAS, the MCOs, and the public.
Sends legislative session alerts and regulatory notices so members hear about a change before it appears in an audit.
Meets DMAS on a quarterly cycle and sits in CCC+ and related workgroups so personal care is represented.
Holds a spring conference and a fall conference each year.
Maintains a member directory for referrals and for families seeking care.
Provides a searchable library of Virginia manuals and regulations at search.vapcp.org.

Board members are owners, operators, and senior managers who run agencies of the same kind as the members they represent. They volunteer. Advocacy is done by the Board, committee chairs, and members who participate — agency owners telling legislators directly what a reimbursement decision does to their caregivers and their clients.

Administration and meeting logistics are handled with ACS West, Inc. in Richmond.
